Experience and commitment create a safe harbor

Sjösättning av Nanny augusti 1978.

There is something truly special about the port world. People often stay for an entire working life here, sometimes even across generations. It’s a place filled with experience, pride, and the feeling of contributing to something meaningful every day. Being part of a strong team, working in a company that is constantly evolving, and having varied and challenging tasks are just some of the reasons why many choose to stay in ports for so long.

Today, we are saying thank you and farewell to an employee who is retiring after being with us since 1978. Spending 48 years at the same workplace is quite rare in many industries. But here, she is far from alone. Over the past three years alone, 12 of our colleagues have retired, with a combined total of more than 500 years of service and experience. Five hundred years - that’s roughly as long as port operations have existed in Uddevalla.

It’s quite remarkable when you think about it. It says something about the people here, their commitment and their willingness to stay, contribute, and be part of something bigger.

A big thank you to you, and to all of you who are here, day after day, year after year. When you leave, you don’t just hand over your tasks - you leave behind a part of what makes this place what it is, and become part of our history.

The photos show two other moments from 1978: the launch of Uddevallavarvet’s vessel Nanny on August 4, and loading of SAAB cars in the port of Uddevalla.
