The rail expansion at Sörvik is making good progress

Utbyggnad av till dubbelspår på Sörvik.

We have now made significant progress on the project to build a second track at Sörvik. Work, which began earlier this year, is progressing according to plan, and several important stages have already been completed.

Between the warehouses and Sörvik quay, the existing single-track railway will be expanded to two tracks. The new track will run parallel to the existing one, creating a double-track railway that will increase capacity in the area.

It will be a solid track, quite literally. The site where the new track is being built was once home to Uddevallavarvet’s gantry crane, and the new track will rest partly on its foundations. A solid foundation for the future of rail freight at Sörvik.

The expansion is an important investment that will create several benefits for both customers and rail operators.

When the project is completed, we will be able to:

  • Accommodate more wagons at the same time in the area.
  • Reduce the number of shunting movements, contributing to more efficient handling for our rail operators.
  • Prepare for the future development of the railway at Sörvik.

Overall, the investment will provide increased capacity, greater flexibility and better conditions for the future of freight transport at Sörvik.

The project is scheduled for completion at the end of October 2026.
