Discharging locomotives from vessel directly to railway
Together with our partner Havator, last week we received and discharged two brand new railway locomotives from M/V Eems Transporter. The locomotives are ordered by the Norwegian railway operator Grenland and arrived directly to us from the factory in Spain.
In Port of Uddevalla, we have the unique ability to discharge locomotives from a vessel directly on to our railway track, which runs all the way along the quay at Skeppsholmspiren. This means that they can run by own machine from here, all the way to their destination, via railway. The locomotives left Uddevalla for Norway on Sunday, where they will be put into use shortly.
The locomotives weigh approximately 123 tons each and they were lifted ashore in a so-called tandem lift, where two cranes lift at each end of the locomotive. This method guarantees a stable and safe lifting operation.
